The 1st book, La Vida Vampire, introduces us to our heroine, Cesca Marinelli, a young woman who was kidnapped by vampires, forcibly turned into one, then buried and forgotten for 200 years. Unearthed by her new best friend and mentor, Cesca adopts to the modern world by becoming a ghost walk tour guide, taking up surfing, loving Walmart, and meeting preternatural investigator, Deke Saber, who suspects her of murder.
In book 2, Last Vampire Standing, vampire Jo Jo, formerly a medieval jester, wants Cesca to help him break into stand up comedy and protect him from his former vampire friends. Cesca's relationship with Deke is heating up but her old friend Triton may be making a come back . And a mysterious energy sapping plague is beginning to affect the local vampires.
Now in book 3, Always the Vampire, Maggie, Cesca's best friend and mentor, the woman who rescued Cesca from her forgotten underground prison, is getting married. Cesca, as maid of honor, is determined that everything will come off perfectly. Unfortunately, the Void, the mysterious plague affecting local vampires, seems to be spreading and both Cesca's beau, Deke, and her childhood friend, Triton, are now sick with it. Cesca must struggle to track down the Void and its evil creator, come up with strategies to defeat them, master her vampire powers, and find some way to cure Deke and Triton all while undertaking wedding preparation duties and protecting the wedding party.
I have really enjoyed this series. Cesca is a bright-eyed, sweet character who is really enjoying her new afterlife. Cesca is not a steely, kick-butt heroine, she never even wanted to be a vampire (real blood makes her sick) but earlier events have shown her that she must embrace her vampire powers as fully as she has embraced modern life. Always the Vampire gathers up threads from the two earlier books and sets up and completely delivers a very satisfying grand showdown between Cesca and her allies and the Void and its evil creator. The author also throws in a few last minute surprises and offers up some new storylines for future books. But I felt the build up to the showdown was not quite as satisfying as the showdown itself. There is an awful lot going on, Cesca and her friends really have their plates full, but I felt some of the trademark humor of this series was lost in the rush. I would have enjoyed seeing Cesca deal with one or two humorous wedding snafus instead of having the wedding come off absolutely perfectly. None the less, I enjoyed the book and I am eagerly looking forward to see where the author will take Cesca next.
On a side note, I love the beautiful covers of all three books and the larger paperback size.

It's not easy being a dutiful maid of honor when you're a vampire in the Sunshine State... Cesca Marinelli has been slacking on her duties as a vampire princess, but she will be the best maid of honor ever for Maggie's Victorian wedding. However, when her mostly-human honey, Saber, falls ill due to a magical construct called the Void, she knows she'll have to go beyond the call of bridesmaid duty... The Void is affecting every supernatural being in Cesca's afterlife, including her shapeshifter ex, Triton. To counter the Void's reign of terror, Cesca must fully summon her vampire powers-which may lead to her own doom.
