(More customer reviews)I used this guide for a recent 5 day trip to Montreal. It was helpful in pointing out the main attractions in the city and I really enjoyed my trip. The book is very compact and easily fit in my purse which was great. I enjoyed the color pictures and most of the maps were easy to read. It also included a small bit of history, practical information, and short list of useful French words.
However there were some things that were disappointing. The maps did not cover all of the area recommended by the author. The author said one park was a short walk from a certain metro stop, but it turned out that the metro stop was out of the coverage area of the map and we spent a lot of time trying to find our way. Another complaint was that it didn't mention Quebec City in the day trips section at all. Lastly, the map and description of Parc du Mont Royal were very misleading. The author recommended the entrance at Rue Peel which was extremely steep, rocky, and unkempt. Had the author mentioned the more challenging parts of the climb I think we would have worn clothing more suited to light hiking than casual sightseeing. We also could have used more direction on the park map because the trails and signs at the park itself were faded and almost unreadable.
Overall I would recommend this book to someone looking for a basic guide of Montreal. It is definitely not the most thorough, and probably better for a short trip, but it definitely hit all the important sights and provided practical information about each.
