Michelin New York City (Michelin Green Guide New York City) Review

I purchased the Michelin Green Guuide New York City after borrowing it from the library several times. It was a worthwhile purchase, if only for the subway map. It gives a tourist all the information he/she needs to plan a trip to NYC, how to chose places to see, subway information and restaurant suggestions in the area of the attraction. The other plus about this guide is the shape, which fits into the pocket of cargo shorts or into a tote bag.

This was the perfect book for our first trip to NYC. The subway lines were accurate and easy to use. The fold out maps were perfect! All of the attractions are here with key tips, directions, and insider info. Follow the mapped out walking tours and you'll definitely see The New York that you imagined. The hotel info was okay, but more accurate info is available online. We'll definitely use our book again for the next trip to New York. Overall, this is a well thought book, and the perfect size to fit in your purse.

(The Rough Guide to New York City is **Amazingly Better**).
*Very* disappointed with this guide, particularly after using the very excellent Lonely Planet guides to Egypt, China and the fairly good one for Australia and another excellent one for Queensland, Australia.
Unfortunately this guide just went from bad to worse for me. E.G. Under various "Don't Miss Lists" it recommends items not found on any of their maps and with no specific address (Amphitheater, Marriot Marquis, Bow Bridge - contributing to the confusion and disappointment); for all of Chinatown this 300 pg guide lists a grand total of two (2) Chinese restaurants. And the entire borough of Staten Island? It gets less than a paragraph. Brooklyn gets a single page, Queens and the Bronx get half a page each. Amazing.
This *might* be a good guide if all you wanted was to go bar-hopping and stay in expensive hotels.
**Far and away better is the Rough Guide to New York City**
Sorry I bought this particular Lonely Planet guidebook. Even the Let's Go New York City guide is better! (You might also want to find a used copy of Cheap Bastard's Guide to New York City - fairly helpful).

This is my first review of anything on Amazon, and I was looking to get this book for my friend for Christmas and noticed that this book only had 2 reviews.....One good and one not so good, so I decided that I should add a review. If you have never been to New York City before, then get this book!!! I bought this book before I made plans to go to the city. We spent 3 days there and by using this book we had an awesome time!!! I can't believe the things we did and saw in just 3 days and I know we wouldn't have if I didn't get this book........well worth it!! I also recommend the New York City Pocket Map, just like it says fits in your back pocket and has a great pop up map and very easy to understand subway map.

Absolutely brilliant. *Very* thorough. Far and away the best guide for New York City that I've come across (Let's Go is pretty good; but so far Lonely Planet looks rather diappointing [although their overseas guides can be truly excellent]. You might also look for a used copy of Cheap Bastard's Guide to New York City - *quite* helpful).
