Far and away the best guide for New York City that I've come across (Let's Go is pretty good; but so far Lonely Planet looks rather diappointing [although their overseas guides can be truly excellent]. You might also look for a used copy of Cheap Bastard's Guide to New York City - *quite* helpful).
