I bought both this guide and the DK Eyewitness Scotland guide before my trip to Edinburgh. This handy, little, pocket guide was well worth every penny. It was much more informative, had great ideas and suggested fantastic, don't miss, sights. It has everything you need to have a great trip in a city you don't know. The fold out map was a great help too.
The food/restaurant section was hit and miss.A couple of the places we tried were fantastic...a couple of other, terrible. Do not do the Mexican food in Scotland despite what the guide book says. Enough said.
This is the only book you need. It fits in your purse/backpack. We wrote all over ours before we left and hit everything we wanted to do and see.

Glasgow - A city guide for long weekenders Review

Glasgow - A city guide for long weekenders

The Long Weekenders City Guide series is designed to be easily read whilst in transit (ie on a bus, train or plain). The simple layout and largish(ish) font - certainly made this very easy to do. What I liked about this book was the fact that you could glean enough information about the main tourist sights, hotels, bars, restaurants, etc in one easy sitting and then refer back to it very quickly as needed when in the city. The insight into the local population is informative and at times humorous. I couldn't wait to taste Irn Bru. I'm heading back to Glasgow on business again soon and will certainly be packing this little book.

Daniel Defoe visited the city of Glasgow in the 18th Century, and later, in his book 'A Tour Thro' the Whole Island of Great Britain,' he described it as 'the cleanest and beautifulest, and best built city in Britain, London excepted.'In modern times, a few days in this vibrant, cosmopolitan, European city, will prove that Defoe's words are still both valid and accurate. Previously viewed as a working class centre for industry, the city's inclusion in the Lonely Planet's 2008 list of Top 10 World Cities, confirmed the success of its transformation into one of the greatest cities in Europe. This city has everything you could want including some of the best shopping in Europe, great bars and restaurants to please any palate, an abundance of museums and theatres, great architecture and some seriously friendly locals.--This text refers to the Kindle Edition edition.
